    •  The W-4 is the IRS form that employees complete and sign to determine the amount of federal tax withholding. If an employee does not complete a W-4, IRS requires a default of "Single and 0". The W-2 is a statement of gross wages earned and taxes withheld during a calendar year.

  •  What is an I-9 form and why do I have to complete one?

    •  The Form I-9 was developed to verify a person's work eligibility in the United States. Employees hired after November 6, 1986 are required to complete the I-9 form.

  •  Direct deposit employees notice that their bank account balances don't show their pay being deposited on payday, but on the day after. Why would this be?

    •  Deposits may be posted by banks as "pending credits" when they receive them on payday. The balance may not reflect the deposit but the employee should still have access to this money. If the employee can access this money at the bank or through an ATM then the employer and bank are in compliance. If the funds are not available to the employee then there could be a rules violation.
